A. You can do novenas to anybody, anytime of year. if you want the benefit of "communal" prayer - saying it at the same time as others are -then you can do it around the feast days. It can be nine days in a row, or nine hours in a row. THe main thing being your concentration and devotion.

I discard most religious rituals as superstition, BUT I must admit, the Saint Anthony Chant does work!?
Q. You know; if you've lost something and you say, "Saint Anthony, Saint Anthony, Please Come Around, Something Is Lost and Can't Be Found. I am looking for (fill in)." The missing object almost pops up immediately. A true miracle. Actually, somehow, it helps me focus. Learned it in 3rd grade Catholic School. Do you have any similar superstitions/tricks/pray ers that WORK?

Per Catholic tradition - he performed miracles while alive - reattached an amputated foot, "refilled" a wine barrel, etc... As well as after death. He was canonized upon his death. The cathedral in Padua is a pretty amazing place - lots and lots of relics. The story goes that his remains were transferred to the church about 30-40 years after death - when the coffin was opened - the entire body had disinegrated except for the tongue - which was the same as in life (he was a great preacher...) A. Ascension Day, 1897 St. Anthony Mary Zaccaria was the founder of the Clerks Regular of St. Paul, later called the Barnabites from the name of their principal church in Rome. He also founded a congregation of nuns which now no longer exists. He was a great admirer of St. Paul and was himself imbued with the teaching of the great Apostle, whom he gave to his followers as a model and a patron. He was a zealous and untiring preacher and completely wore himself out at this work; he died at the age of thirty-six on July 5, 1539

Prayer to Saint Anthony?
Q. I don't know much about theology but I mean this question with all respect. The other day I read about Saint Anthony and someone told me that single women pray to Saint Anthony for a husband, or at least a boyfriend, and that there are other traditions. I was listening to the Spanish language radio station yesterday and I heard a song about a girl who is very lonely, and she lights a candle for the patron saint of love, and she's asking him for a boyfriend, or partner. I searched for the song on YouTube and it's called "Santo del Amor" (Patron Saint of Love) by a group called Campeche. This made me really curious. A. Traditionally, the prayer to St. Anthony is said in a sing-song sort of way, and goes, "Tony Tony, Turn around, something's lost and needs be found." In your case, however, if you're going to work with patron saints, you'd be wanting to pray to St. Valentine instead. Anthony is for lost things -- the way you talk, you want a person, and you've not had one to lose., so Anthony would be wrong on both counts.
